Kapal Attractions
Kapal
By road: from Denpasar north on Singaraja road.
Bus: good services from Denpasar-Ubung.
Bemo: regular services from Denpasar and Mengwi.
The little town of Kapal lies 15 km (9 mi.) north-west of Denpasar, a few kilometers before Mengwi. It is famed for the excellent quality of its sculpture and other products made of cement and stone, and many temple figures and other objects made of these materials come from here. Although these are attractive examples of local craftsmanship they are also heavy, and before buying any of them visitors will want to consider the high cost of shipping them home.
Along the main road are numbers of shops open to the street in which stone figures, house temples, etc. are displayed and also offered for sale. In view of the usually heavy weight, before purchasing these otherwise quite charming and well made articles, the problem of expensive transport must be taken into consideration.

Pura Desa
This very interesting village temple stands directly on the main road through Kapal. There are actually two temples, the Pura Desa and Pura Puseh, but they are built so closely together that their original separateness can be detected only by the initiated.
The richly decorated gate has three entrances, one for each member of the divine trinity. To right and left of the gate are finely carved reliefs depicting scenes from Tantric animal fables.
