White River State Park, Indianapolis

White River State Park is a great place to escape from the fast pace of the city. Once in the park, you would be hard pressed to believe that you are in downtown Indianapolis. White River State Park boasts of expansive green spaces and the following attractions: Indianapolis Zoo, a baseball park, Eiteljorg Museum, Indiana State Museum, an Imax theater, NCAA Hall of Champions, and the Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial.

Eiteljorg Museum of American Indian and Western Art

To the east of Monument Circle, beyond the State Capitol (1888), is the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indian and Western Art, situated at the entrance to the White River State Park (500 Washington St.). Here is displayed the remarkable collection assembled by the Indianapolis businessman Harrison Eiteljorg: painting and sculpture of the west from the early 19th c. onwards, including works by the landscapists Albert Bierstadt and Thomas Moran and pictures and sculpture by the leading Western artists Frederick S. Remington and Charles M. Russell; an extensive collection of works of the Taos Society of Artists; and Indian arts and crafts from all over North America.

Indianapolis Zoo

The Indianapolis Zoo opened in 1964 and plays a major role in worldwide conservation and research. It is noted for accomplishing the world's first successful artificial insemination of an African elephant. The Zoo is located in White River State Park.

Medal of Honor Memorial

The Medal of Honor Memorial pays tribute to the men and women who have been recipients of the Medal of Honor. Twenty-seven glass walls are etched with the names of recipients, at dusk the walls are illuminated.

NCAA Hall of Champions

Exhibits at the NCAA Hall of Champions highlight college athletes, coaches and teams through multimedia displays.

IMAX Theater

Over 400 visitors can view IMAX and 3-D films on a six-story screen.
