Lake Monroe is located near Bloomington and is a popular fishing spot. Lake Monroe is the largest lake in Indiana and offers the outdoor enthusiast a wide variety of aquatic pursuits beyond fishing. Water skiing, swimming, and general frolicking in the warm waters are the favorite pastimes of those who visit year after year. For those not interested in water sports, the lake area offers hiking trails and scenic vistas of limestone cliffs.
Lilly Library, located on the Indiana University campus, contains rare books and manuscripts that include a copy of the 1454 Gutenberg New Testament. A collection of works by Abraham Lincoln is also displayed.

The Monroe County Historical Society Museum is located in Bloomington. In this museum visitors will find over 50,000 artifacts generally related to the surrounding areas. The museum has a few of these items on permanent display and also rotates through the collection to come up with innovative and interesting exhibits on a regular basis.

Wonder Lab is located in Bloomington and makes for a great family outing. Wonder Lab is children's fun center with a focus on science, health and technology. It features interactive displays that are both educational and entertaining.
