Srinagar Tourist Attractions

The beautiful city of Srinagar is one of the top destinations in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The city is well known for its string of lakes and well tended gardens. Many visitors come to Srinagar to shop in its markets well stocked with items created by the fine Kashmiri artisans.
Srinagar's and the surroundings are stunning with towering mountains, colourful houseboats on the lake, and unique local architecture. A fine way to spend an afternoon is to take a tour on the lake with a local boatman.

Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Botanical Garden

The Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Botanical Garden in Srinagar is a relatively modern garden having only been created in 1969. Consequently it is different than many of the traditional gardens you will be in this area. The garden has a variety of styles and incorporates a botanical garden, research area, a "Plant Introduction Centre" and a recreational area for visitors. Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Botanical Garden covers approximately 80 hectares.

Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden

The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar looks out over Dal Lake from the Zabarwan Hills. This garden was created with tourism in mind when it was developed in the 2006/7. As the name suggests the garden features a fabulous display of a wide variety of tulips.

Hazratbal Mosque

The only domed mosque in Srinagar, Hazratbal Mosque is said to contain a hair of the prophet Muhammad. The mosque looks out over Dal Lake and stands out bring on the horizon due to its white exterior.

ShankaracharyaTemple

The Shankaracharya Temple in Srinagar has roots that date back to 250 BC. A long set of stone steps lead to the entrance of this ancient temple. The temple sits atop Takht-I-Sulaiman hill.

Hari Parbat Fort

Hari Parbat Fort in Srinagar sit high above the surroundings on sacred hill with a Hindu temple. Also on one side of this hill is the Makhdoom Sahib shrine.

Pari Mahal Garden

Located high above Srinagar is the garden of Pari Mahal. This seven terraced garden that dates to 1640 was created by Prince Dara Shikoh.
