Shivpuri Attractions

Shivpuri is an ancient town and a sacred place that was named for the God Shiva. Shivpuri was the old summer capital of Scindia rulers and the dense forests were the hunting grounds of the Mughal emperors.

The most notable attractions are the exquisite palaces and hunting lodges erected by the Scindia rulers. Intricately carved marble cenotaphs commemorate the Scindia rulers.

History has it that the great Indian leader Tatia Tope was hanged near Shivpuri in 1859.

Shivpuri is a sanctuary for rare wildlife with the Madhav National Park within its boundaries. The numerous palaces and lakes are a reminder of its royal past.
