Mathura Attractions

Mathura is located north of Agra and south of Delhi. Mathura is an extremely important Hindu pilgrimage center and the birthplace of Lord Krishna.

The town was once a center for Buddhist study until the 8th C. Mathura was home to 20 monasteries and over 3,000 monks.

The Keshav Dev temple is an ancient building with a slab of rock that is said to be the location of Krishna's birth over 3,500 years ago. There are gardens and shops selling souvenirs located around the Keshav Dev temple.

Mathura houses a fairly large train station, called Mathura Junction. Mathura is also home to a technologically advanced oil refinery owned by the Indian Oil Corporation. This refinery is one of the largest in Asia.
