Mandu is a quiet retreat, a 'lost world' located on a hilltop. Mandu was founded by Raja Bhoj, in the 10th C, as a fortress and retreat. The Muslim rulers of Delhi conquered it in 1304. The rulers built beautiful palaces like the Jahaz and Hindola, constructed ornamental canals, baths and pavilions.
The main tourist attraction in Mandu is the
buildings, which can be divided in three groups: the Royal Enclave Group, the Village Group, and the Rewa Kund Group. These are some of finest specimens of Afghan architecture in India.
