Gwalior is a city in Madhya Pradesh that has served as the center of several of North India's historic kingdoms. The most significant attraction is the Gwalior Fort with the city sprawling beneath it.
The Old Town of Gwalior lies to the east and contains the tomb of the Sufi saint Mahommed Ghausand the tomb of Mian Tansen, a great singer and
known as one of the 'Nine Jewels' of Akbar's court. The Old Town is home to white sandstone mosque, palaces, rock temples and statues of archeological interest.
The new section of Gwalior is the site of numerous factories that produce cotton, yarn, paint, ceramics, chemicals, and leather products.
