Description
Assam is the largest state in northeastern India and the most accessible. The dense forest, rolling hills and beautiful flowers are just a few of the things that Assam is known for.

Assam grows about 60% of India's tea and produces a huge share of India's oil. The state once covered most of the northeast but it was reduced in size after Independence.

The world famous one horned rhinoceros and other rare species of wildlife on the verge of extinction are found within the boundaries of Assam. A visit to the national parks or wildlife sanctuaries will allow visitors to see much of the wildlife including twenty out of forty one listed endangered species.

Guwahati is an expanding city that is the gateway to the northeast. The city is a great starting point for travel to other states in the northeast.
