John and Eleanor Mitchell founded The Mitchell Art Museum as a location to display their collection of American paintings, decorative arts, and sculpture. Works by Mary Cassatt, George Bellows, Childe Hassam, Maurice Prendergast, Thomas Eakins, and John Singer Sargent are part of the permanent collection.
