Marion Attractions
Union General John Logan gave a speech, while standing in Marion's public square, that won southern Illinois over to the Union during the Civil War. Ray Fosse Park in Marion has playgrounds, baseball diamonds, and a large swimming pool. South of Marion is Ferne Clyffe with an intermittent waterfall, interesting plants and geologic formations.
Crab Orchard has three lakes and over 43,000 acres of land. The landscape includes hardwood and pine forests, croplands, grasslands, wetlands, rolling hills, and rugged terrain. Recreational facilities and natural areas are available with opportunity for hiking, fishing, camping, boating and to view native wildlife including wintering waterfowl.
