Bloomington was named in 1822 for the abundance of flowers and location of the town, north of Blooming Grove. Attractions in and around Bloomington include the Challenger Learning Center, Grady's Family Fun Park and Miller Park Zoo.
The David Davis Mansion, completed in 1872 was built for U.S. Supreme Court Judge David Davis and his wife Sarah. The Italianate home featured many modern conveniences such as indoor plumbing and central heating. Original furnishings are on display.

In 1870, Mrs. Horace Smith established a studio and gathered a class of students in oil painting. The Russell Gallery in Withers Library housed the Art Association exhibits from 1922 until 1976. The McLean County Arts Center presents approximately twelve exhibitions yearly as well as art classes, artist lectures, art workshops for children and adults and literary arts presentations.
Housed in the 1903 Old McLean County Courthouse, the McLean County Museum of History offers a glimpse into the lives of the residents of McLean County. Exhibits include the Harriet Rust Pioneer Discovery Room featuring hands-on displays.
It began as a pioneer settlement on the Illinois prairie. The museum was opened in 1904 in what is now the textile storage room.

Miller Park Zoo features the endangered Sumatran tiger as well as sun bears, bald eagles, red wolves and the red panda. Exploration is allowed through hands on activities and small animal exhibits.

The Prairie Aviation Museum features jets and helicopters as well as a DC-3, which is one of only seven aircraft listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Other historical aircraft and vehicles are on display.
