Settled in 1846, the colony was named for Biskopskulla - the leader's birthplace in Sweden. The group was united by religious belief and necessity.
Bishop Hill State Historic Site
Bishop Hill State Historic Site commemorates the Swedish communal settlement with five museums. Artisans and craftsmen demonstrate skills and crafts of colony life. Sixteen of the buildings have been restored including the Colony Church, Colony Hotel, Bishop Hill Museum and the Village Park.
Henry County Museum
Henry County Museum features furnished period rooms and agricultural displays that trace the history of Henry County.
