Description
On the east side of the old town of Houmt-Souk can be seen the Strangers' Mosque (Mosquée des Etrangers, Djemaa el Ghorba). Its square minaret has a frieze of inscriptions round the top. Diagonally opposite is the Zaouia of Sidi Brahim (1674). From here Avenue Habib Thameur runs north for some 200m/220yds to the 17th century Mosque of the Turks (Mosquée des Turcs, Djemaa Tourk). With its seven domes and circular minaret it is regarded as Houmt-Souk's finest mosque. A market is held in the square in front of the mosque on Mondays and Thursdays.
