Description
In Søndergade, where influential Horsens merchants once operated, there are still some buildings of note, including No. 17, "Lichtenbergs Palæ" (palace), an old half-timbered house which was rebuilt in the Baroque style in 1744. The German architect N. H. Riemann gave it a magnificent stone facade, similar to others which can be seen in Schleswig. An open staircase leads up to the doorway; inside are stucco ceilings. From 1810 to 1829 Queen Charlotte Frederike, mother of Frederik VII, resided here. Today it is a hotel (Jorgensens Hotel).
