Formally named National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, the interior of this hill, being the crater of an extinct volcano, resembles a giant punchbowl.
The cemetery contains nearly 40,000 mostly military graves in trimmed lawns. A major memorial comprises steps and walls of the names of the fallen at the end opposite the entrance. The overall setting and landscaping conveys a peaceful dignity.
However, the part not to be missed in visiting punchbowl are the views of Honolulu from the south rim of the grounds.
