Granatspitze Group
The narrow and only slightly glaciated ridge of the Granatspitze group links the Venediger with the Glockner groups. Its highest peak is not the Granitspitze itself (3,086m/10,125ft) but the Grosser Muntanitz (3,232m/10,604ft), to the south. A difficult route but one affording extensive views, the St Pöltner Weg, runs from the Neuer Prager Hütte via the St Pöltner Hütte (2,481m/8,140ft) on the Felber Tauern and along the whole ridge to the Rudolfs-Hütte (2,250m/7,380ft; Alpine center) on the Weissee. This is a magnificent setting at the head of the Stubach valley, which climbs up between the Granatspitze and Grossglockner groups from Uttendorf to the Enzingerboden. The Felber Tal and the Stubachtal, which form important routes into the Matreier Tal and Kalser Tal, are noted for their beautiful lakes (Hintersee, Grünsee, Weissee, Tauernmoossee) and fine forests (nature reserve).
