Herning Municipal Museum Bymuseum

In the Municipal Museum at Museumsgade 32 in Herning the life of the once-poor people of the heathland is presented by means of reconstructed farmhouse interiors and wax figures dressed in period costumes. The "Knitting Room" gives an impression of the way the textile industry has developed; piece-work knitting at home was at one time essential for the peasant's survival.

A visit is also recommended to the exhibition called "A Year on Jen Nielsen's Farm", mounted by artist Inge Faurtoft; 67 scenes using dolls and puppets help to convey an idea of the family's life from ploughing in spring right through to Christmas. There is also an exhibition building displaying objects relating to the region's history.
