Kangasala

Kangasala (pop. 17,500) lies at the south end of the Vesijärvi. The church has a fine carved pulpit (1661) and a portrait of the Swedish queen Karin Månsdotter, who died in 1612 on the old royal estate of Liuksiala (6km/4mi south).

The road then skirts the long straggling lake of Kaukajärvi. Viatala, to the left of the road, has a modern cemetery chapel, and beyond this is the old church of Messukylä. Then on to Tampere, 18km/11mi from Kangasala.
