Hämeenlinna to Tampere on E 12

The road from Hämeenlinna runs northwest through wooded country. In 9.5km/6mi a road goes off on the right to Parola. Before the level crossing, to the left of the road, is an open-air museum of tanks and anti-tank weapons from 1919 onwards. The road then continues to Hattula (6.5km/4mi).

Iittala - Glassworks, Finland

Beyond the junction with the Parola road, E 12 follows the southern shore of the Lehijärvi at some distance from the lake and in 13.5km/8.5mi comes to the well-known glassmaking town of Iittala, off the road to the left on the shores of the narrow Kalvolanjärvi. Attached to the glassworks (conducted tours; showrooms) is a Glass Museum featuring a range of products on display and for sale.

Sääksmäki
After Vanajanselkä on the Hämeenlinna-Tampere route, the stone church of Sääksmäki, one of the oldest in Finland (ca. 1550), is seen on the right. Then a road goes off on the right to the industrial town of Valkeakoski (pop. 23,000). In 21km/13mi, road E 12 joins E 63, coming from Lempäälä. From there it is 15km/9mi on the expressway to Tampere.

11km/7mi beyond Iittala a road branches off and runs by way of Toijala (railroad junction) and along the southern shore of the Makkarselkä; then on E 63, coming from Turku via Lempäälä, to Tampere.
Vanajanselkä
The Hämeenlinna-Tampere route continues from Toijala on E 12, which crosses the 205m/225yd-long Sääksmäki suspension bridge at the west end of the Vanajanselkä (restaurant, bathing beach).
