Hoher Krippenstein

From the Schönbergalm station near the Dachstein Caves near Hallstatt the cableway continues to the upper station (2,079m/6,821ft; Berghaus Krippenstein) on the Hoher Krippenstein (2,109m/6,920ft). Fifteen minutes' climb above the cableway stands a chapel (1959), with a bell commemorating 13 students and teachers from Heilbronn in Germany who were killed in the Dachstein area in 1954. From the Krippenstein another cableway descends to the Gjaidalm (1,795m/5,889ft). The ascent of the Krippenstein from Obertraun by way of the Gjaidalm (four hours; also cabin cableway) takes 5.75 hours.
