Located on the western coast, Grand-Bourg is the principal town of Marie-Galante and the center of the sugar industry. It is surrounded by windmills, refineries and features an Amerindian archeological site.
At Habitation Murat visitors will find the Ecomusée of arts and traditions of Marie-Galante, a restored colonial mansion, a windmill tower and the ruins of a sugar factory. There is a clear view of the islands of Les Saintes.
At Punch Pond visitors will see the historic site of the destruction of the sugar cane crop in 1849 by emancipated slaves protesting repression by plantation owners. It features a commemorative monument and a museum with paintings of the events.
