St Efstratios Attractions Áyios Efstratios

Áyios Efstrátios, known in antiquity as Halonesos and in the Middle Ages as Néon (Turkish Hagiostrata), is a rocky island of volcanic origin some 30km/20mi south of Lemnos. In ancient times the island protected the sea route between Athens and the islands of Lemnos and Imbros. The little town and port of Áyios Efstrátios lies in the largest bay on the west coast of the island. Above the town are an old castle and windmills.

Regular boat services run several times weekly between Áyios Konstantínos or Kymi (Euboea), Skópelos, Áyios Efstrátios and Lemnos; also local connections with Lemnos and Lésbos.
