Salamina - Town Attractions Khóra
The capital of the island of Salamis is Salamína or Kouloúri . It lies on the north side of Salamína Bay; it has a local museum. 3km/2mi east is the principal port, Paloúkia (shipyards).
6km/4mi west of Salamína on a scenically beautiful road is the Faneroméni monastery, which is revered as the scene of various apparitions of the Mother of the God and has fine frescoes. The monastery was founded in 1661 on the site of an ancient sanctuary, re-using architectural elements from the older buildings. To the south are the remains of the small fort of Boudorón (sixth century B.C.). At the foot of the hill on which the monastery stands is the landing-stage used by the ferry from Megálo Péfko (Mégara).
