Rion Attractions Río
Ríon, 6km/4mi northeast of Patras, owes its importance to its situation at the narrowest point of the Gulf of Corinth, the "Little Dardanelles", opposite Antírrion, only 2km/1.25mi away on the north side of the gulf. It is a busy ferry station linking the Peloponnese with mainland Greece (many crossings daily). Beside the landing-stage is the Kástro Moréas (16th C.), which along with the Kástro Roumélis at Antírrion controlled the entrance to the gulf.
