Kos - Town Attractions Khóra
Kos is the chief town on the island of Kos. Rebuilt after an earthquake in 1933, it lies in a deep bay, now silted up, on the northeast coast at the east end of the plain which extends along the north coast - the only plain of any size on the island. On the east side of the sheltered harbor stands the Castle of the Knights (1450-80), with pieces of ancient sculpture and inscribed stones built into its walls.
Ippokratia Festival
The Ippokratia Festival is held in Kos every August. There are theatrical performances, evening concerts, a flower show, folk art, and a presentation of the Hippocratic Oath.
Knights' Castle (Neratzia Castle)
The Knights' Castle is an impressive medieval building built C. 1450 -1478 by the knights of St. John on the ruins of the ancient wall.
The Castle houses a small collection of Classical sculptures as well as inscriptions of the Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and early Christian period.
