Egio Attractions Aíyion

The town of Aíyion lies on the south side of the Gulf of Corinth, 35 km/22 mi east of Patras. It is situated on a rocky plateau above the beach, at the foot of which are springs which were already known in ancient times. Ancient Aigion was a member of the Achaean League. In the Middle Ages, under the name of Vostitsa, it was for a time the seat of a Crusader baron.

An archeological museum was opened in Aíyion in August 1994. It has exhibits documenting human settlement on the Peloponnese from the Stone Age to the Roman era.

Aigion is a town on two levels. In the lower town is Panayía Tripití, an old church built inside a rock. The square in the upper town, Psilá Alónia, forms a natural balcony over the sea.
