Attic Riviera Attractions Aktí Apollóna

The Attic Riviera is the stretch of coast between Athens and Cape Soúnion, also known as the Coast of Apollo. In antiquity there were a number of towns in this area, including the sites of Áyios Kósmas and Anaphlystos, near Anávyssos, which have yielded important finds, but in modern times the area was sparsely populated until the influx of refugees from Asia Minor after 1922 (the theme of Ilías Venésis's novel "Galini"). The south coast of Attica has been transformed by the development of mass tourism since World War II, and a whole series of popular resorts have sprung up (Palaion Faliron, Kalamaki, Glyfada, Kavouri, Vouliagmeni, Varkitsa, Lagonisi, Anávyssos, Legrena, etc.).
The Apollo Coast runs the 70 km of coastline between Piraeus and Lavria, on the western coast of the Saronic Gulf.

The entire area is full of life and tourist development and is fairly modern. The visitor wandering through it can enjoy pretty beaches and bays as well as the verdant modern neighborhoods.

The Apollo Coast is near Athens and the visitor can cross it by city bus or stay at one of the nearby hotels. The area has much to attract visitors of all ages.

Sports lovers will find golf courses, organized beaches, sports facilities, sailing clubs and schools, water skiing, marinas and yacht refueling stations.

There are also seaside restaurants, discos, pubs and Greek night clubs.

Those interested in antiquities and culture can visit local museums and archeological sites or go to the local concerts and theaters.

And health conscious tourists can enjoy the mineral waters of Lake Vouliagmeni.
Mikrolímano (Kastella)
Mikrolímano is one of the nicest parts of the western coast of the Apollo Coast. The Yacht Club's facilities are on the southern side. Fishing gear outlets and boat rental offices abound.

The hill above Mikrolímano is called Kastella. The view is stunning as is the amphitheatrical way the attractive neo-classical houses have been built on Kastella.
Zea Marina
The Zea marina is a safe and protected bay with yacht refueling stations, restaurants, attractive clubs and the GNTO's information office. Flying Dolphins depart from Zea for the islands of the Saronic Gulf. The Freatida beach is near the marina, while the Peiraiki Akti, an area full of offices, tavernas and fresh fish, lies to the southwest.
