Lake Eildon

Lake Eildon is Victoria's largest lake, with an area of 138sq.km and a shoreline of 515km. It is a man-made lake, created to provide water for irrigation and the generation of power, and its creation led to the drowning of many farms in the Goulburn and Delatite valleys. The area round the lake, amid the gently rolling foothills of the Victorian Alps, is now a very popular holiday region. There are facilities for water sports in the holiday centers of Eildon and Bonnie Doon, where house boats can also be hired.

To the south of Alexandra is the McKenzie Nature Reserve, an area of unspoiled bush country with many orchids. There is also good walking country in Cathedral Range State Park and Eildon State Park.
