Gladstone - Surroundings
Of particular interest to holidaymakers are Tannum Sands, from which there is a bridge to Boyne Island, the site of a large aluminum smelting plant. Quoin Island, in the harbor, has a number of resort complexes. To the southeast is the Agnes Water 'Town of 1770' area, where Cook landed in 1770. The coastal region round Gladstone is known as Reef Adventureland, since from here the southern part of the Great Barrier Reef can be most easily reached by boat or helicopter.
