Puri Gianyar

The palace of Puri Gianyar, built in 1771 by Dewa Manggis IV, lies on one side of the village's central square. It is normally not open to the public; but if you are lucky a member of the princely family, who still occupy the palace, may be prepared to let you in.

The palace consists of a number of pavilions in traditional Balinese style, with magnificent woodcarving. Also notable, in addition to the carving in the interior of the palace, are the figures in the charming tropical garden.
