The most beautiful stretch of the Zschopau valley begins at Wolkenstein, where the lower parts of the wooded hillsides fall steeply down to the valley bottom, with outcrops of the local slate rocks visible in the walls of the valley. Agricultural land begins only between 80 m/260ft and 130 m/425ft above the valley bottom.
The Late Gothic parish church of St Martin (1495) in Zschopau has a fine Baroque interior (after 1751), an organ of 1755 and a neo-classical altar (1859).
Above the old town center (restored) in Zschopau rears Schloss Wildeck (12th C.; rebuilt in 16th and 19th C.), an irregular complex of buildings with a 35 m/115ft high keep known as Dicker Heinrich (Fat Henry).
