Wetzlar Attractions

The old free imperial city of Wetzlar is picturesquely situated on the Lahn above its junction with the Dill. Above the town stands the ruined 12th C. castle of Kalsmunt. Wetzlar has optical and electronic as well as metalworking industries.
Cathedral
The old town of Wetzlar on the slopes above the left bank of the Lahn, with its narrow lanes and handsome old burghers' houses, is dominated by the Cathedral (formerly the Stiftskirche of St Mary), a richly articulated building of the 12th-16th centuries.
Lottehaus
To the east of the Domplatz in Wetzlar, at Lottestrasse 8, is the Lottehaus (Lotte's House), once the House of the Teutonic Order, home of Charlotte Buff, who won Goethe's heart during his stay in Wetzlar. The building now contains a collection of material on Goethe and Lotte, together with the Municipal Museum and the Industrial Museum.
Reichskammer-gericht
In the Fischmarkt, southwest of the Domplatz (Cathedral Square) in Wetzlar, are a number of houses of the 16th-18th centuries. A double eagle marks the building once occupied by the Reichskammergericht (German Supreme Court), where Goethe worked as a young lawyer in 1772.
