Wasserburg is picturesquely situated on a peninsula almost completely enclosed by the Inn. It is a charming town, built in the style characteristic of the towns in the Inn and Salzach valleys.
Wasserburg has preserved a number of fine buildings from its past as a prosperous trading town on the old Salt Road between Augsburg and Salzburg: the parish church of St James (by Hans Stethaimer, 1410), the Town Hall (1457-59, with much later alteration; concerts), the double church of St Michael (15th C.) and the Late Gothic Schloss.
In the Heimathaus in Herrengasse is the interesting Wasserburg Heimatmuseum (local crafts and guilds, religious art, history of the town, administration of justice, peasant domestic life).
