Villingen-Schwenningen Attractions

The double town of Villingen-Schwenningen lies near the source of the Neckar at the point where the Baar hills merge into the Black Forest.
Aviation Museum
To the east of Schwenningen is the town's airfield, with a private Aviation Museum (some 30 aircraft).
Schwenningen - Muslenplatz
In the center of Schwenningen lies the attractive Muslenplatz, with the Protestant pastor's house (1747) and the very interesting Heimat- and Clock Museum (which includes a collection of glass). To the rear is the 15th C. Town Church.
Villingen - Franziskaner
In the west of Villingen, the "Franziskaner" cultural center, housed in a former Franciscan friary (fine church of 1292), incorporates the Franciscan Museum (Black Forest collection; finds from a Celtic princely grave).
Villingen - Old Town Hall
In Münsterplatz stands the Old Town Hall (first recorded 1306; rebuilt in Renaissance style). Fine Council Chamber and Ratslaube (arcade); collection of antiquities.
Villingen - St George's Church
In the northwest of Villingen is the Benedictine church of St George (completed in Baroque style in 1692).
Villingen Minster
The central feature of the old town of Villingen, still surrounded by its walls and towers, is the Minster of Our Lady (begun c. 1130; rebuilt in Gothic style after a great fire in 1271).
