Uckermark Attractions

The Uckermark - the area around Prenzlau, Angermünde and Templin, extending on both sides of the river Uecker between the upper Havel and the lower Oder - is a tract of partly wooded and partly open farming country, with numerous lakes. The name ("Mark" is "march" or "borderland") reflects its situation on the borders between the historic territories of Brandenburg, Mecklenburg and Pomerania.
Uckermark - Northern Area, Germany
The northern part of the Uckermark, around Prenzlau, is an upland region with occasional rounded hills. It has good soil and is intensively cultivated (wheat, sugar-beet).

In the wide Uecker valley are two lakes, the Oberueckersee and the Unterueckersee.
Uckermark - Southern Area, Germany
The southern part of the Uckermark, around Angermünde (pop. 11,500), is a hilly region with numbers of lakes of varying size, hollows and steep-sided valleys. There is much more forest in this area than in the northern Uckermark.
