Schwedt Attractions
Schwedt lies some 80km/50mi northeast of Berlin at the junction of the river Welse with the Hohensaaten-Friedrichstal Waterway, a canal running parallel to the Oder. It has preserved only a few Baroque houses from the time when it was the seat of the Margraves of Brandenburg-Schwedt.
The Baroque church of the French Reformed community in Schwedt, on an oval ground-plan, was built by Georg Wilhelm Berlischky in 1779. It is now used as a concert hall, known as the Berlischky Pavilion.
In Heinrichslust Park in Schwedt are an open-air theater and a sundial of 1740 from the old Schlosspark.
The Municipal Museum (Am Markt 4) in Schwedt illustrates the history of the town up to 1945.
Once the main avenue of the Baroque town, Vierradener Strasse is still the central feature of Schwedt, a pleasant street with fountains, sculpture and areas of grass.
