Sassnitz lies on the Jasmund Peninsula, to the south of the Stubbenkammer cliffs, surrounded on the north by the beautiful Stubnitz beech forests.

From Sassnitz there are international ferry services to Trelleborg in Sweden and Klaipeda in Lithuania.
Stubbenkammer, Germany

6km/4mi north of Sassnitz are the chalk cliffs of Stubbenkammer, reaching a height of 119m/390ft in the Königsstuhl. Extensive views from nearby crags.
Bergen, Germany
(Near Sassnitz)
Some 25km/15mi southwest of Sassnitz on B 96 is Bergen, an important road junction. St Mary's Church, modeled on Lübeck Cathedral, is an outstanding example of North German brick-built Gothic architecture. Originally Romanesque (begun about 1180), it was rebuilt in the 14th century as a Gothic hall-church. It has a remarkable cycle of 13th century wall paintings of Old and New Testament scenes in the choir and transept. Also of interest is the grave-slab of Abbess Elizabeth (1473)
