Rudolstadt Attractions

In the middle Saale valley, surrounded by wooded hills, is the former princely capital of Rudolstadt, with Schloss Heidecksburg looming over it. Wilhelm von Humboldt called this "one of the most beautiful spots in Germany".
Schloss Heidecksburg
Above the Saale River and the town of Rudolstadt rears Schloss Heidecksburg, a magnificent Baroque palace built by the Counts of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt from 1737 onwards. It now houses a museum and art gallery.
With its harmonious combination of architecture, paintings, sculpture and furniture it is one of the finest examples of European Rococo.

Old Town
In Rudolstadt's old town stands Schloss Ludwigsburg (1734), a Baroque palace with a handsome banqueting hall.
Town Church
The Town Church in Rudolstadt is a hall-church rebuilt in Late Renaissance style in the 17th C, retaining many Late Gothic features.
Traditional and Folk Art Museum
In Rudolstadt's Heinrich Heine Park is an open-air museum (peasant houses of the 17th-20th centuries).
