Rheingau Region Attractions

The Rheingau region is the most elite in Germany and one of the most important worldwide. This geographical situation affords many south-facing slopes ideal for the cultivation of Riesling vines.

Most vines are grown in the mid-section on the lower slopes of the Taunus Hills. Also included in the Rheingau region are the districts at Hochheim (eastern boundary) and Assmannshausen and Lorchhausen (western boundary).

The Romans were the first to practice viticulture in this region and today many archeological sites can be visited. The Eberbach monks, with the monks of Schloss Johannisberg, developed a filtration system and one of the largest storing casks in the world at the time.
