Putbus Attractions

In the southeast of the island of Rügen is the little town of Putbus (pop. 5,600), seat of the Princes of Putbus, with neo-classical buildings and a beautiful Schlosspark. Here too is Rügen's oldest seaside resort, established in the early 19th century on the Goor, near Lauterbach. The largest modern resorts (Binz, Sellin and Göhren) are also in this area.

24km/15mi northeast of Stralsund is Putbus, a little princely residence and seaside resort, regularly planned and built in uniform style. Neo-classical theater (1819-21). Notable features of the Schlosspark are a game enclosure, old trees, the Marstall (Court Stables, 1821-24), the Orangery (1824) and the Garden House (now a cafe).
