Pulsnitz Attractions
12km/7.5mi southwest of Kamenz lies Pulsnitz, a town famed for its gingerbread and as the birthplace of the sculptor Ernst Rietschel (1804-61). Among features of interest are the parish church of St Nicholas (originally Late Gothic; rebuilt in 1745 after a fire; Rietschel Memorial Chapel in sacristy), the Renaissance Town Hall (1555), with a monument to Rietschel in front of it, and the Observatory, with a large collection of meteorites. Scheduled as historic monuments are the old dyeworks in Bachstrasse, the 18th century pottery kiln at Ernst-Thälmann-Strasse 4 and the Perfert, a fortified granary dating from the time of the Hussite raids (c. 1420).
