In Partenkirchen, the eastern part of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, lying between the river Partnach and the Wank, are the handsome Town Hall (Rathaus; 1935) and the Werdenfelser Heimatmuseum (Ludwigstrasse 47).
The Wankbahn cableway (small cabins) runs from Partenkirchen, 3,000m/3,300yd long, to an upper station on the Wank at 1,755m/5,760ft. From the summit (1,780m/5.840ft) there is a magnificent view of the Garmisch basin.
South of Partenkirchen, on the Gudiberg, is the Olympic Ski Stadium (Olympia-Skistadion), with two Olympic ski-jumps. Nearby is the lower station of the Eckbauerbahn.
A 15-minute walk above Partenkirchen brings the visitor to the St Anton gardens (fine views), with the pilgrimage church of St Anton (1704; ceiling painting by J. E. Holzer, stucco ornament).
