37m/121ft, area 65.5sq.km/25sq.mi). There is another concentration in the area between Sternberg and Krakow (Krakower See, alt. 48 m/157ft, area 15.7sq.km/6sq.mi).

To the east, between Plau and Waren, are the "Grosse Seen" ("Great Lakes"), drained by the Elde, which flows into the Elbe: the Plauer See (38.7sq.km/15sq.mi), the Fleesensee (11sq.km/4.25sq.mi), the Kölpinsee (20.5sq.km/8sq.mi) and the largest of the Mecklenburg lakes, Müritz (116.8sq.km/45sq.mi), all lying at a height of 62m/203ft.

To the southeast are the "Kleinseen" ("Little Lakes") round the town of Neustrelitz and to the south of Lychen and Templin.

There are also a number of lakes of some size to the north of the inner terminal moraine: in the Güstrow basin the Inselsee, in the "Mecklenburg Switzerland" the Malchiner See (14.3sq.km/5.5sq.mi) and the Teterower See, to the south of Neubrandenburg the Tollensesee (17.4sq.km/6.75sq.mi, alt. 15m/49ft), the Feldberger Seen and the Ückerseen.
