Marzahn-Hellersdorf Attractions
The "new town" of Marzahn, originally Berlin's 19th district, was merged with Hellersdorf in 2001 to become Marzahn-Hellersdorf. Marzahn was intended as an East German "showpiece" to illustrate the benefits of socialist living conditions. The population structure in Marzahn is similar to that aimed at in Berlin as a whole
The quaint little village of Alt-Marzahn, with its brick-built church and lovely village-inn, is found in the town center.
Since 1991 the Marzahn Berlin Village Museum has been open to visitors. Inside a typical Brandenburg farmhouse at Alt-Marzahn 31 there is a display of agricultural equipment, clothing, machinery, etc. as used earlier in this century in the countryside around Berlin.

In 1987, as part of the 750-year celebrations, gardens covering 21 hectares/52 acres were opened on Blumberger Damm and Eiserner Strasse (where the entrance is). There are various leisure facilities.
