Kyritz Attractions

Kyritz, chief town of the district, lies 70km/45mi north of Potsdam on the river Jäglitz, to the west of a chain of lakes. It has a parish church and some interesting half-timbered houses. There are some remains of the town's medieval walls.
Half-timbered Houses
In spite of numerous fires, Kyritz has preserved a number of 17th century half-timbered houses with fine carving and inscriptions on the beams (examples are Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Strasse 36 and Bahnhofstrasse 44 (1699), as well as a number of 18th C. houses with overhanging eaves.

There are some remains of the medieval town walls on the east side of the town.
Kampehl, Germany

Southeast of Kyritz lies the village of Kampehl. In the burial chapel of the village church is the mummified body of the Ritter von Kahlbutz (d. 1703), whose life and death were the subject of many legends.
Neustadt an der Dosse, Germany
(Near Kyritz)
Neustadt an der Dosse (12km/7.5mi south of Kyritz) has a Baroque parish church (1673-96) and the Late Baroque buildings and offices of the old State Stud Farm.
Parish Church
Kyritz's parish church of St Mary, brick-built on a high stone base, dates from the second half of the 15th C.(remodeled in Baroque style in 1708-14). It has a 16th C. font and a pulpit of 1714.
Wusterhausen, Germany
(Near Kyritz)
In Wusterhausen (8km/5mi southeastof Kyritz on B 5) is the church of SS. Peter and Paul, with fine frescoes and a Gothic arched gateway between the pastors' houses. At Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse 4 and 6 are two old half-timbered houses with carved beams and Roccoco doorways.
