Kulmbach, 23km/15mi northeast of Bayreuth. It holds the a festival at the beginning of Lent and another in July and August.

Plassenburg - Tin Figures Museum

The Tin Figures Museum in the Plassenburg, near Kulmbach, has a remarkable collection of over 300,000 tin figures, displayed in more than 220 dioramas (tin figure exchange held in alternate, odd-numbered years), and a collection of hunting weapons.

Langheimer Klosterhof

On the Burgberg (Castle Hill) in Kulmbach is the Langheimer Klosterhof, a richly decorated Baroque monastery (1694).

Plassenburg

Plassenburg, above Kulmbach, was passed to the Hohenzollern family in 1340 and until 1604 was the seat of the Margraves of Brandenburg-Kulmbach. The present building dates mainly from 1560-70. Its finest feature is the Renaissance courtyard, the Schöner Hof.
