Konigstein Attractions
One of the most scenically attractive places in the Taunus is the little town of Königstein, with the ruins of its 13th C. castle (first recorded 1225; blown up by French troops 1796). From here, a road runs up the Grosser Feldberg (telecommunications tower; superb views); there is also a road from Oberursel.
In the northwestern Taunus, near Wiesbaden, are the attractive little spas of Bad Schwalbach and Schlangenbad, from which the "Spa Highway" (Bäderstrasse, B 260) runs through the northwestern foothills of the range to Bad Ems in the Lahn valley.
Königstein is 20km/12.5mi northwest of Frankfurt.
The popular holiday resort of Königstein, famed for what was once the mightiest fortress in Germany, lies below the 361m/1,184ft high hill of that name in the Elbe Sandstone Hills.

Parish Church
The little town of Königstein has a fine parish church (originally Baroque, 1720-24; rebuilt 1810-23 after a fire), with a neo-classical interior. On the way up to the church can be seen marks showing high water levels.
