Klingenthal Attractions

Klingenthal lies directly on the frontier with the Czech Republic in the wooded upper Vogtland, at the foot of the Aschberg (936 m/3,071ft). It has been noted since the 19th century for the manufacture of musical instruments, and is also a popular holiday and winter sports resort.

Housed in the Late Baroque Paulusschlössel, the Museum of Musical Instruments displays pieces from around the world, and locally made instruments.
Parish Church
In the center of the long straggling town of Klingenthal is the parish church (1736-37; dedicated to the Prince of Peace), a Baroque building on an octagonal ground plan with three-story galleries and a three-stage dome-like curving roof topped by a lantern. Since the destruction of the Frauenkirche in Dresden it is the largest church of the kind in Saxony.

In front of the former District House of Culture is a sculpture, the "Accordion Player", which has become the emblem of Klingenthal.
