Kirchheim unter Teck, in the foreland of the central Swabian Alb, is an important industrial town (metalworking, furniture manufacture, electrical products).
The Hauff Museum in Holzmaden, near Jirchheim, has a rich collection, including particularly fossils, some 150 million years old, from the Jurassic Sea, saurians and a large slab containing water-lilies of the Lower Jurassic. There are also fossils from the Dogger and Malm formations of the Upper Jurassic.
The Kirchheim Kornhaus (c. 1550), in front of the church in Max-Eyth-Strasse, now houses the Municipal Museum (geology, prehistory and the early historical period, folk art and traditions) and a picture gallery.
Behind the Town Hall in Kirchheim is the Martinskirche (St Martin's Church), the origins of which are believed to date back to the seventh century. It was given its present form in the 14th and 15th centuries. It has the remains of frescoes (1463) and a Renaissance monument.
The main street of Kirchheim's picturesque old town is Marktstrasse (pedestrian zone), at the north end of which stands the Town Hall (Rathaus), a magnificent half-timbered building of 1724.
